We are not a company. We are a calling — rooted in a lifelong relationship with Southern Africa's wild spaces, its people, and its extraordinary light.
Founded by people who grew up chasing sunsets across the Southern African bushveld and wine-soaked valleys of the Cape, Out in Africa Tours & Safaris exists to share that same raw, transformative connection with every traveller.
From the ancient plains of the Kruger to the lonely red dunes of Namibia, from the vine-covered hillsides of Stellenbosch to the spray of Victoria Falls — we know these places not as destinations, but as home.
Every journey is crafted by owners who care deeply, guided by experts who know these landscapes intimately, and tailored around the person who's coming — not a brochure.
Start a Conversation →No two clients are alike. We start from scratch every time — shaped by your pace, passions, and people.
We go beyond the itinerary. Landscapes, wildlife, communities — experienced in ways that feel genuine and lasting.
We support local communities and conservation. Your journey enriches Africa, not just you.
Extraordinary experiences should be accessible. We work hard to ensure every budget goes as far as possible.
Every journey we plan carries that intention — that stillness, that wonder, that profound sense of being exactly where you're supposed to be.
"Born in the heart of Zimbabwe and raised in the breathtaking Luangwa Valley, Gerald's childhood was anything but ordinary."
Imagine bottle-feeding baby elephants, giraffes, hippos, and buffalo — surrounded by the untamed beauty of Africa's wildlife. This was Gerald's upbringing, and it shaped everything about who he became: an adventurer, conservationist, and guide whose connection to the natural world runs bone-deep.
As a qualified dive master, pilot, skipper, and adventure and cultural guide, Gerald brings a remarkable breadth of expertise to every experience. His skills as a 4x4 and adventure guide instructor and assessor — ensure that every trip is not only thrilling but safe, enriching, and deeply considered.
Formerly an honorary member of both the Natal Parks Board and the Natal Sharks Board, Gerald's commitment to preserving the natural world is matched only by his gift for crafting immersive, unforgettable adventures. With Gerald as your guide, you're not just exploring Africa — you're living it.
"Join me to discover hidden gems, embrace thrilling challenges, and create stories you'll tell for years to come."
"With over 25 years as a Nature Conservator, Instructor, and Guide — Trevor's experience is simply extraordinary."
Born in Zimbabwe and raised in the rugged Luangwa Valley, Trevor's intimate bond with the African bush is lifelong. He holds the elite Special Knowledge Skill: Dangerous Animals (SKS: DA) certification from the Field Guides Association of South Africa (FGASA) — a mark reserved for only the finest guides on the continent.
Trevor spent seven years as a Senior Wilderness Trails Ranger in Kruger National Park, leading safaris on foot and training Nature Conservationists and Field Guides. He played a pivotal role at the prestigious Tswalu Game Reserve during the introduction of the desert black rhino — a landmark conservation milestone. His guiding has taken him across Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and beyond, including safaris along the northern banks of the Rio Save River and through renowned wilderness areas like Niassa, Gorongosa, and Tembe Elephant Park.
Perhaps most remarkably, Trevor spent three months on foot in Mozambique's Maputo Elephant Sanctuary — tasked by the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) post-conflict to track and identify surviving elephants. A testament to skills that go far beyond guiding.
A master of safety, Trevor served as an Advanced Firearms Instructor and Range Master with the International Firearms Training Academy (ITA), and holds accreditation as a Nationally Accredited Assessor and Moderator — contributing to international firearms and field guide training standards.
"With Trevor, your safari is more than a journey — it's an immersive experience led by a true bush expert, delivered with the finesse of a bespoke tour operator."
Gerald and Trevor share something no qualification can teach — a childhood spent at the feet of Africa's greatest wilderness. The Luangwa Valley shaped them both, and that foundation runs through every safari and tour they lead.
When you travel with Out in Africa, you're not just in expert hands — you're in the hands of people who grew up here, who love this land, and who want nothing more than for you to fall in love with it too.

Start Planning →From the iconic to the undiscovered — South Africa offers a remarkable diversity of safari habitats, each with its own character, wildlife, and atmosphere.
South Africa's flagship reserve — nearly 2 million hectares of Big 5 country, ancient baobabs, and untamed African bush.
Red dunes, desert-adapted lions, and an otherworldly landscape straddling South Africa and Botswana. Remote, raw, and extraordinary.
A malaria-free Big 5 reserve in an ancient volcanic crater — ideal for families and those with limited time who want maximum wildlife.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site — hippos, crocodiles, whale watching, and nesting leatherback turtles in a stunning coastal wilderness.
Home to some of Africa's last truly massive tusker elephants, in dense sand forest bordering Mozambique. Wild, remote, and remarkable.
A birder's paradise tucked into the Mozambique border — fever tree forests, pan lakes, and over 420 bird species in a pristine, seldom-visited reserve.
Africa's most dramatic desert landscapes — ancient, empty, and hauntingly beautiful. Namibia offers a safari experience unlike anywhere else on earth.
Vast salt pans, floodlit water holes, and dense concentrations of desert-adapted wildlife. One of Africa's great self-drive and guided safari destinations.
One of Namibia's most remote and wild parks — deep Kalahari sand forests, elephant highways, and almost no other visitors. Truly off the beaten path.
Shipwrecked coastline, roaring Atlantic fog, desert-adapted lions and brown hyena. One of the most hauntingly beautiful wilderness areas on earth.
Zimbabwe's wild places are legendary among serious safari-goers — remote, under-visited, and home to some of Africa's finest walking safari experiences.
Zimbabwe's largest reserve — vast teak forests, massive elephant herds, and one of Africa's best wild dog populations. Classic, timeless safari country.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Zambezi floodplain — famous for exceptional walking safaris, canoe safaris, and the most dramatic riverside game viewing in Africa.
Zambia is Africa's best-kept secret — untamed, uncrowded, and offering some of the continent's most authentic and immersive wilderness experiences.
The birthplace of walking safaris. South Luangwa is Zambia's crown jewel — legendary for leopards, lions, and extraordinary night drives.
Even wilder and more remote than the south — North Luangwa is accessible only by walking safari. One of Africa's great wilderness experiences for the adventurous.
The mighty Zambezi as your backdrop — canoe safaris past hippos and crocodiles, superb fishing, and game-rich floodplains opposite Mana Pools.
Africa's second largest wildebeest migration happens here — largely unknown, almost entirely unvisited, and one of the most moving wildlife spectacles on the continent.
